SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta has one of the best academic programs, and best practice learning systems steeped in Islamic values. Established in 1943, it is longstanding in providing a nurturing atmosphere and excellence in character development in its students.

Muchild is complementary in providing academic excellence and moral training in line with spiritual guidance in order to shape students into characters within the mainstream method of complete development through modern learning media like science and computer labs, a library, and multimedia-equipped classrooms. Extracurricular programs move from sports, arts, and religious activities. Muchild undoubtedly provides the youth henceforth a range of opportunities where children can develop their other talents.

Under the leadership of Naning Hidayati, S.Pd., M.Pd., the school year by year innovates and adapts itself to the changing educational landscape. The school has shown remarkable performance and gained recognition through competitions ranging from choir events, sports meets, to academic contests.
